Signs of Possible Miscarriage |
|
|
Some women experience signs and symptoms of a miscarriage while others do not. This is an abbreviated list of common indicators. A more detailed description of what to expect during a miscarriage is also available within our website. Vaginal Bleeding: Vaginal spotting or bleeding is usually the first sign of miscarriage. Any bleeding from the vagina during pregnancy should be addressed immediately as it may be one of the first signs that you are losing your baby. Your healthcare provider should be contacted immediately. It is important to remember though, that this is not a positive indicator of miscarriage as up to 25% of pregnant women experience a small amount of vaginal bleeding- and as many as half of them continue on with normal pregnancies. Discomfort or pain: Usually after vaginal bleeding has begun, women may experience cramping, pelvic pain, lower back pain, severe abdominal pain, or dizziness. Breasts: There may be a decrease in breast tenderness or fullness. Passage of tissue: Clots or tissue that passes from the vagina is highly likely to be embyotic tissue. There is no other way to say it, but this is in part, probably your baby’s tissue. When bleeding is accompanied by pain and the passage of tissue, the likelihood of miscarriage is high. Your healthcare provider should be contacted immediately with any of the above occurrences.
